Welcome to Century Stair Systems!
Whether you’re updating worn carpeted stairs to sleek hardwood or planning a full staircase transformation, we’re here to make the process seamless and satisfying. Below is an overview of what you can expect during your stair renovation or capping project.
Step 1: Requesting an Estimate
Getting started is easy. Simply send us a few clear photos of your existing staircase along with a brief note describing your goals—whether it’s a complete staircase rebuild or a fresh new look with hardwood treads and railings.
Email everything to centurystairs@gmail.com and we’ll provide you with a quote that’s typically accurate within 10% of the final project cost.
Step 2: Making Your Selections
Our standard renovation package includes:
- Red oak treads, risers, posts, and handrails
- Wrought iron pickets
- Access to over 30 stain options in our red oak line
Once your quote is approved, we’ll book a showroom appointment where you can choose your finishes in person. If possible, bring a sample of your flooring to help find the perfect complementary stain for your stairs and railings.
Step 3: Upgrade Options
Want something beyond the basics? We offer a wide range of material upgrades to suit your taste and budget.
- Hickory – A strong and striking wood, about 30% harder than oak, with a unique grain pattern.
- Maple – Sleek and smooth, but more susceptible to visible scratches due to its fine grain.
- White Oak – Light-toned and on-trend, though it comes at a premium price point.
We also include matching hardwood for any landing areas, all stained and lacquered for a flawless, cohesive finish.
Step 4: Our Premium Production Process
Once your selections are finalized, we custom order the materials—which usually arrive in 3 to 4 weeks. From there, our craftsmen begin:
- Hand-sanding each piece of wood with ultra-fine grit
- Applying stain by hand for depth and uniformity
- Finishing each piece with three coats of lacquer for a smooth, cabinet-grade sheen
This multi-step process is what sets Century Stair Systems apart.
Step 5: Installation Day
Depending on our schedule, your install will usually take place 2 to 4 months after your selection appointment.
On installation day:
- Our team carefully unpacks and custom fits each stair component on-site
- All treads, risers, and stringers are laminated to the existing staircase using high-quality glue for a squeak-free finish
- Any odor from the glue is minimal and typically dissipates within a couple of days
⚠️ Important to Note:
- You will not be able to use your stairs during the installation.
- Please ensure pets and small children are kept away from the area for safety.
- Stair capping projects are usually scheduled during warmer months, unless cutting can take place inside a vacant home or a nearby covered garage.
